NATURE

wildlife

painting

I draw my inspiration from the colours and beauty in nature. Observing wildlife and birds in nature brings me enormous pleasure. As the seasons change so does the landscape, and wildlife must adapt to those changes. This can make for exciting opportunities.
The challenge of photographing an animal in nature is in itself an art form. Getting a quality photograph that can be used for my next painting requires patience and timing. Combining a photo of the subject and the background while considering the composition is always my goal.
The next step of capturing the essence of the animal in detail for a painting is what I strive towards and feeds my love of painting.
My method is to paint with acrylics on Baltic Birch board. I often airbrush my background to create soft atmospheric feelings and then layer leaves, branches, rocks, water to support the subject. Composition and placement of the subject is critical to create a cohesive natural feeling. An abstract background also works for creating texture and depth.
My goal is to create a lifelike representation of the subject that can be enjoyed by all.
